It's Fun to Be a Grandparent!
October 11, 2010
I am a grandparent of five, soon to be six. It's a lot less stressful to be Grandma, rather than Mom. Instead of buying expensive toys for the grandchildren, I have enjoyed making things for them.
I started out making blankets for them as babies. There are great crochet and knitting patterns for blankets at our library. The book Knit Baby Blankets! by Gwen Steege has 15 easy-to-follow patterns. I also recommend Colorful Cuddlers: 4 Crochet Afghans for Baby by Becky Stevens.
As they have grown, I have started making stuffed toys as well. That has really been fun. The library has several books on how to knit and crochet toys. I have enjoyed Toys to Crochet by Claire Garland, Itty Bitty Animals by Sheila Leslie, and More Cute Little Animals to Crochet: 17 Crochet Collectibles by Amy Gaines.
These stuffed toys are something that they will hopefully have for several years, and will remind them of their grandma.
