It’s the Final Countdown!
May 21, 2013
Arrested Development is one of my all-time favorite shows. I've watched it on TV since the pilot, followed it through three seasons of random time slot changes, and watched the series finale with some of my equally devastated friends in my freshman year dorm room. As soon as the DVDs came out, I quickly purchased them and began loaning them out to everyone I knew, trying to spread the love of one of the funniest shows I had ever seen.
It’s a simple enough premise for a sitcom: straight-laced Michael Bluth is forced to look after his very eccentric family when his father is sent to prison for fraud. Sounds simple enough, right? However, his family is comprised of the most amazingly neurotic, selfish, lazy, hilarious, and well-written characters I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.
Besides being exceptionally clever, Arrested Development also rewarded fans with many recurring jokes, one of my favorites being each family member’s very skewed take on what a chicken sounds like (they each had their own special and hilarious way of calling Michael a chicken, culminating in this fantastic scene).
Following the cancellation, there were many rumors that the show was going to be picked up by another network. I always crossed my fingers and hoped, but sadly, nothing ever came to fruition, that is until Netflix stepped in and saved the day. On May 26, 15 brand new episodes will go live on the streaming portion of their site. If you are unfamiliar with this gem of a show (and don’t worry, many people missed it the first time around, hence the cancellation), MCPL can help you out since we own the first three seasons.
If you are a fan already, are you going to watch the new episodes? If so, what characters are you hoping will make an appearance besides the Bluth family? Will you be having a viewing party? I personally will be attending a marathon viewing at my sister’s house. It will be a great way to kick off summer! I hope you check out the show as well.
