The Internet Is Serious Business: Single Topic Tumblrs

September 21, 2012

I’ve mentioned that as part of writing this blog, I read a lot of other blogs for inspiration. Some are very personal, detailing the blogger’s daily life. Other blogs are dedicated to an interest or a hobby. Recently, I've seen an explosion of blogs that have a very specific and often rather strange focus. These single-topic blogs have been around for quite some time; they really took off with the rise of the microblogging/social network site Tumblr.

How specific are single topic Tumblrs? Very specific. How odd can those single topics be? Very odd. Let me share some examples.

  • Photos of bird with arms instead of wings
  • People eating food on Law & Order (dun dun)
  • Celebrities with one tiny hand
  • Having very short arms can make doing ordinary tasks quite difficult
  • Noses look like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  • Tom Selleck and a waterfall and a sandwich equals magic
  • People holding baby Nic Cage

If you want to create your own single topic blog, check out these materials about Tumblr at MCPL, and then go to Tumblr.com and sign up. Then, all you need is  a single topic. I’m thinking about creating a single topic Tumblr of single topic Tumblrs. Oh wait, somebody’s already grabbed that. But again, there are multiple single topic Tumblrs of single topic Tumblrs…

Busy creating a single topic Tumblr of single topic Tumblrs of single topic Tumblrs,

Jeff D.
