International Friendship Week
February 06, 2012
When February rolls around and every store is chock full of the red, white, and pink Valentine's decor, it's hard to think of the month as celebrating anything but that.
But, February has a week that I feel is even more important than Valentine's Day, because it celebrates what should be the foundation of any great relationship!
International Friendship Week is February 6th through 10th and celebrates all those great things about being a friend. Whether you're a BFFL (that's "Best Friend For Life") or Friends Forever, friends are a vital part of our everyday life.
And come to think of it, there's no better place to find out about great friendships than in books! Whether we're talking about a spider named Charlotte's friendship with a pig named Wilbur, or the friends from the Hundred Acre Woods, the fact that a certain Harry Potter wouldn't have made it very far without help from Ron and Hermione, or that even the great Sherlock Holmes needed Dr. Watson's assistance to make it through; friendships are important elements of so many books we read.
So in honor of this week, why don't you pick up your favorite book and share it with a friend?
