Insider's Guide to South Dakota
March 12, 2013
Before going on vacation, I checked out the book, The Insider’s Guide to South Dakota’s Black Hills and Badlands. I was able to plan our entire adventure using this invaluable resource written by T.D. Griffith and Nyla D. Griffith. This guide gave me insight into the best places in the area for lodging, dining, shopping, and recreation.
The major attraction and highlight of the trip was Mount Rushmore. This is a national monument of four U.S. presidents carved in stone, which is known as the "Shrine of Democracy." The evening lighting ceremony was spectacular, and the tribute to our military was honorable.
In addition, the Black Hills and Badlands were amazing, as they offered miles upon miles of mountainous peaks, mysterious geological formations, towering evergreens, and grassy prairies. One can also expect lots of close encounters with the "wild," as there is an abundance of wildlife roaming the lands.
I found there is a lot more to see and do in South Dakota than just visiting Mount Rushmore. This was one of my favorite trips that I have tucked away in my memory book forever.
