Inside Recommended Reading
June 17, 2010
Have you ever wondered what the library staff reads? After all, we move hundreds of books every day and are the first to touch all of those wondrous new books. Do we select a book by reading the blurb on the back of the book? Do we receive inside information on great reads?
Would you ever guess that we get some of our best tips from our wonderful customers? Most staff will agree that some of the best books they have read, their very favorite books, have been recommended by you, the customer! When books are returned and checked out at the circulation desk and conversation takes place, personal book reviews are shared. We learn enough from what is shared to know what to read (or what not to read.)
We also pay attention to what books are being requested multiple times a day. If several of our customers want to read the same book, then we know it’s worth checking out. We place a hold and wait our turn, just like you!
We value your opinion more than you may have ever realized. On behalf of the MCPL Liberty Branch staff, we want to thank you the customer for your book conversations and recommendations. Good or bad, your assistance helps simplify our personal selection process!

I agree!
This is so true! I work at a library, and I keep a stash of books that were recently returned (the ones that nobody has on hold, of course) so that I can check them out at the end of the day. How lucky it is that MCPL allows for 200 items per card to be checked out at one time. I've never had that many, but I've definitely topped 100.
