The Impact of Reading to Our Children
February 08, 2011
Should we read to our children beginning at a few months old? I strongly believe we should. It is a time to spend quality time with them, and it makes them feel loved. Reading to them in those early years helps them to not be one of the 20% that graduates and cannot read the diploma. Children who have not developed some basic literacy skills by the time they enter school are three to four times more likely to drop out in later years. 60% of American inmates are illiterate, and 85% of juvenile offenders have reading problems. So I ask you again, should we read to our young children?
