If You Liked The Hunger Games Books…
April 26, 2013
After reading The Hunger Game books, I was "hungry" for more futuristic stories in that somewhat tame realm, so I went searching.
I found another sci-fi book called The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary Pearson. There are three books in this series, The Jenna Fox Chronicles, just like The Hunger Games. Jenna is a seventeen-year-old who wakes up from a year-long coma in the near future. She doesn’t remember her life, her parents, or her house. She even has to relearn emotions, as well other things like walking. The author, Mary Pearson, wrote this story after having two children with cancer (six years apart), so you can imagine that these books will really make you think. This book ends 260 years later, so don’t worry, more of the future is coming in books two (The Fox Inheritance) and three (Fox Forever.) And, Fox Forever was just published in 2013 and is in our catalog. I had to wait for it, but you don’t! I just hate to wait for the next book to come out when I am reading a series. Don’t you?!
Another futuristic trilogy series takes place in The Chemical Garden, but without the rules of an organized game. The books in this series are Wither, Fever, and Shiver by Lauren DeStefano. Rhine Ellery is sixteen-year old twin who has been kidnapped from her home state and driven south. In this future, no illness or cancer remains, but males die at age twenty-five years and females at twenty. No one really understands why. So, while geneticists seek to find a cure, males marry several females at a time to increase the number of children they can father before they die. Find out what happens to Rhine and her sister wives, will they find love with their husband? Will Rhine ever see her twin brother again?
These girls may not be “on fire” but their stories are ... I dare you to try to put down my recommendations!
