I Took Tea with Jane Austen
January 24, 2011
I have to confess, despite an undergraduate in English and several years as a Librarian, I’ve only read one of Jane Austen’s books (rest assured, I am hanging my head in shame). Oh, I’ve seen a thousand movie adaptations of everything from Northanger Abbey to Sense and Sensibility, but I’ve only ever read Pride and Prejudice. Now, I have to make time to read the rest of her repertoire. After all, she did invite me to Tea.
This past Saturday, I had the opportunity to hear about several new Austenesque books, meet reps from the Jane Austen Society of North America, and scratch the surface of what life was really like during Jane Austen’s era. Hint: She wasn’t Victorian at all folks!
If all goes as planned, we’ll be doing it again next year (and by then, I’ll have read another Jane Austen novel).
