I Need More Books!

June 09, 2010

Have you ever found that one book that you just can’t put down? The one that you will risk grounding to stay up all night and finish? The one that you re-read so many times you break the spine?

The wonderful thing about finding a book that you love is that you can enjoy it as many times as you want. The bad thing is when it is over and you are left with nothing to read.

Once you have found that book you love, you actually have a starting place for finding other books like it. There are a few tips to finding other books that you may like just as much.

Figure out what you liked about the book.

  •  Did you like that the main character was a strong girl?
  •   Did you like how the book spoke to you like an adult?
  •   Did you like that the book was set in a far-off distant planet?
  •   Did you like trying to figure out who-dunnit?

All of these reasons can hook you up with even more books!

By using a few free resources available from the library, you can easily find the next book to keep you up all night.

Books and Authors  is an easy to use database that gives you a list of book ideas based on WHO, WHAT, WHERE, and WHEN. The browsing capabilities are endless and you often stumble upon books you have already read and loved! It also has a handy list of award winning books and book lists created by experts and librarians.

Fiction Connection is a fun and eye-pleasing database that helps you find books based on what you already like. After searching for a book you liked, Fiction Connection gives you a checklist of genre, topic, location, timeframe, character, and even character traits to choose from.

These are just a few handy databases to help you find books to read.

There are even more sites, databases, lists, and what-not’s out there to help you pick books that you can’t put down. And remember, your local librarian is always happy to recommend books as well.
