The Hunger Games Movie: What Did You Think?

April 21, 2012

I think by now we’ve all had a chance to see The Hunger Games. So what did you think? Were you impressed? Disappointed? Swooning in the aisles over Josh Hutcherson?

I was very impressed by the movie. Nothing—NOTHING—was like I pictured it, but it worked in a big way. The entire nation of Panem, from the opulently gaudy Capitol to the run-down District 12, was so very textured. It felt like I was watching a documentary about a real foreign country… but one that just so happens to take place on my home turf. Think about it—if Panem is where North America used to be, and the Capitol is in the center of the nation, that would put the Hunger Games  just about smack-dab here in our hometown!

I liked the way the movie fleshed out characters such as Ceasar Flickerman and President Snow, and I thought the young lady who played Rue (Amandla Stenberg) did a beautiful job. Sure, there are a few nitpicky things that only a big fan like you or I would complain about (Where was the bread from District 11? Why did Haymitch look so clean?), but on the whole, I thought that The Hunger Games the movie was a great representation of The Hunger Games book.

But what did you think? I want your experiences and your opinions. Leave a comment below telling me what you liked and didn’t like about the movie!

Peyton J.

I thought that some of the things that only true fans would catch were REALLY bad. they completely ruined the mocking jay pin! Other then that it was good.

There was a few things that weren't exactly right. But then again it is a movie. I thought when Peeta and Katniss kissed it was soo romantic!!!!! I loved it! of corse when Rue died I cried. But I do think there should if been more connection between Rue and Katniss. How the director pictured the Captiol and District 12 was different and not how I pictured it, but I loved it!!!!!!!! Everything was so futuristic. And so hunger games!!!!! I hoped everyone else loved it!!!!

It's a nitpicky thing, but I

It's a nitpicky thing, but I thought Rue needed to be developed a little better. It doesn't seem like Katniss has a chance to become REALLY connected with her. She sings the song she sang for Prim and that shows the audience that she likens Rue to her sister, but I still thought they could have gone into Rue's story a little bit. The bread from District 11 could have tied in with that. It wouldn't have taken too much extra footage. Oh well. The book will forever be better in my eyes, but the movie was well done. Can't wait to see Catching Fire.

Loved it! except...

I have read ALL the books and absolutely love them! I loved the movie also, but im a total Peeta fan, and it made me mad how they didnt really show the love connection between Peeta and Katniss. It showed that Peeta LIKED her and they kissed once, but nothing really emotional. It made me so mad. Other than that though i LOVE the hunger games. :)
