How to Use the Advanced Search Feature to Find What You Need
September 20, 2010
Sometimes finding just what you’re looking for at the library is like searching for a needle in a haystack. A catalog search can sometimes return 100’s of records. Recently, I was searching for books related to the theme of “adventure” to use during storytime. Below are the steps I took. Following these steps may help you find what you’re looking for!
From our homepage of www.mymcpl.org, choose the “Catalog” link by clicking on it.

Once you are directed to the Catalog, you have the option of entering your Card Number (ID) and Birth Date (PIN) or signing is as a Guest.

The Advanced Search link is a great way to narrow down your search because it allows you to choose many different options.

In this case, I typed “adventure” for Keyword, selected a Location, and an Item Type.

Yikes! I still found 365 items. Another option to try would be to select one of the Categories in the right-hand column. By selecting “Children’s Literature,” I was able to narrow my search to 181 results.
