How Long Is This Weekend, Anyway?
June 28, 2011
In 1993, four years after the original Weekend at Bernie’s was released, Weekend at Bernie’s II came out. This time Bernie is brought back to life with voodoo magic to retrieve the 2 million he embezzled during the first film. Andrew McCarthy (Larry) and Jonathan Silverman (Richard), his former employees, steal Bernie out of the morgue and take him to the Virgin Islands where the cash is hidden.
It’s another hot climate and still Bernie does not seem to be decomposing: voodoo magic, indeed! Seriously, how can anyone be in his vicinity without noticing a putrid stench? Quite the contrary, although dead, Bernie seems to be quite the ladies’ man. Because the voodoo priestess’s goons bungle the ceremony and use a pigeon instead of a chicken, Bernie can only move when he hears music. Barry Bostwick (Arthur Hummel) is sent to tail Larry and Richard, assuming that they will lead him to the stolen money. Every time he sees the deceased Bernie walking around, Hummel goes berserk and hilarity ensues.
It’s not quite a classic, but it can be ordered through WorldCat.
