Home, Sweet Home

What was that old saying about a prophet not being welcomed in his own country? It seems to also apply to our own birthplaces or wherever we grow up. We have a tendency to think that to find something special, we have to travel afar, maybe even overseas—when all along there are many, many fascinating spots right at one’s doorstep.
Right here in the KC area are many venues. How many have never been to the Truman Library and House, Nelson Art Gallery, Toy Museum, Starlight, Follies, Union Station Science Museum, KC Philharmonic, Hodge Park with its reconstructed village, Line Creek, and KC Zoo? One could even go on a fountain search as KC is second only to Rome in number of fountains. Of course with all the lakes around, one doesn’t have to go too far from KC to enjoy watersports, be it fishing, skiing, lounging on a pontoon, or maybe even camping out.
Sports lovers have a bonanza here with not only football, baseball, soccer arenas, and a national NASCAR track, but a roller derby team too. And if one wants to mostly chow down, KC is not known as Cowtown for no reason--it has the best steaks and the best BBQ in the nation.
Add to that our many music halls and concerts, outdoors or inside, and you have a dream vacation spot, YOUR hometown, KC. All ages welcome and MCPL has Plenty of guidebooks to aid you in finding your area of preference.
