Hold On to Your Holds This Summer

May 22, 2012

As the vacation season approaches, all of the little details that precede and make for an enjoyable and relaxed vacation come to mind. Is there a way to not lose my position on the holds list while I am on vacation? Is there anything I can do so that my holds don't go back if I can't get to the branch in time to pick them up? How can I read the Star while I am out of town or even out of the country? Random, right? But nevertheless, important. There are some very simple solutions to these dilemmas that will make your life less complicated and truly relaxed for this summer season.

Just like the post office, we have a way to "suspend" your holds until you return so that you do not lose your place on the holds queue. You can do it yourself under the "my account" feature of our catalog. Click the "holds" tab option, and then under the "Activate or Suspend Selected Holds" you can adjust your holds from the comfort of your own home.

If you have any trouble with this process, please just call us at 816.741.4721, or the next time you are in, stop one of us and we will be happy to show you how this is done. If you like, we can even do it for you over the phone or at the desk while you are checking out your items. The only exceptions are holds that are already at the branch and show as available on your account or Interlibrary loan items.

If the item gets here and is registered on your account as available for you to pick up, you cannot suspend the hold. If this occurs, please call the Parkville Branch, as there may be other options available to help you with your situation.

In case you didn't know it, we have the Kansas City Star Electronic Image Edition available to you if you have Internet access.

If you have a Library card and Internet access, you have access to the Library—and your world.

Happy Travels!
