Happy International Left-Handers' Day!

August 13, 2012

Happy International Left-Handers’ Day! Today is a day to celebrate your sinistrality. Today is an opportunity to understand what it is like to have to adjust most of your daily life to fit into a world that is laid out for right-handers. As you may or may not know, the left side of the brain controls the right side of your body and the right side of your brain controls the left side of your body. Thus the saying: "Only left-handed people are in their right minds."

If you are a right-hander, try cutting with left-handed scissors using your right hand. Try pouring your milk with your left hand. It is not easy is it? Since you are at a computer, try moving the mouse over to your left side or try using a mouse with your left hand. These are just a few things you can do to get an idea about the left-handers laments. For me, the hardest thing was learning to write in spiral notebooks. Each day I would leave school with imprints from the spiral notebooks.
There is a website and a club dedicated to all things left-handed. The website describes Left-Handers’ Day as well as listing famous left-handers. They even have posters to create your own Lefty Only zone. If you are lucky enough to be left-handed, make sure to show your pride today!
