Happy Fourth of July!
July 03, 2012
Tomorrow marks the 236th birthday of the United States of America, whose nationhood is officially traced back to the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776. Sure, we've had our ups and downs. We're very much a work in progress. But I think we're also blessed with a bold, motley crew of citizens who aren't afraid to speak their minds. We're teachers, librarians, mechanics, salespeople, bakers, doctors, computer technicians, servers, businesspeople, students, and other things besides. Some of us were born here. Others settled here from abroad. We all have one thing in common though: we're Americans. We work hard and play harder. And many of us are looking forward to a relaxing day off from work--on Hump-Day nevertheless! The Library will be closed, but check out what Kansas City has to offer this Fourth of July. We've also highlighted some fireworks exhibits that are sure to be fun for the whole family.
