Happy Birthday, Amelia Bedelia!
January 09, 2013
Calling all fans of Amelia Bedelia-- the literal and loveable housekeeper popularized by Peggy and Herman Parish! This year is the 50th birthday of this beloved book character so memorable from childhood. Who doesn't remember her wild antics around the household of Mr. and Mrs. Rogers and everywhere she went? She takes everything literally, such as "dust the furniture," "draw the drapes," "put out the lights," and, a favorite of mine, "dress the turkey." Yes, Amelia got confused easily, and this wonderful collection of books has so much to teach children about idioms, homophones and homonyms, and words with multiple meanings.
We invite kids ages 7-10 to come out and join in on the fun of celebrating her birthday on Monday, January 14th during our Meow Society writing group at 7:00 p.m. We will share a couple of her stories, share some writings of our own, play a homophone Bingo game, and a couple of other fun activites. We will also have a display out all month, featuring her books for you to check out!
