Happy Birthday!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu a happy birthday. Who is Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, you ask? You might know her by another name, Mother Teresa. She was born August 26, 1910 in Albania. If she was still alive, she would be 102 years old. Unfortunately, she died September 5, 1997 at the age of 87 after several years of failing health. I don’t really need to go into detail about her life because everyone knows about the Missionaries of Charity that she founded, her work with the poor, the sick, the orphaned, and the dying in India. If you are interested in learning more about her life and charitable works, the Library has numerous books and movies on the subject.

She lead a remarkable and difficult life, never once complaining about the circumstances she chose to live in and going about her missionary work with total devotion. That is why I think it's only appropriate to remember her on her birthday, and also remember all the good she did in trying to alleviate suffering. Happy Birthday, Mother Teresa!
