A Handmade Christmas

November 27, 2012

Do you ever have a free moment when you think to yourself, "I should do something crafty"? Well that’s what happened to me this week on my day off, but it didn’t turn out very well.

I was scrolling through Pinterest, thinking about getting my craft on, when I found a recipe for making clay Christmas ornaments. It seemed so simple. Just mix cornstarch, baking soda, and water to form a magic ornament-making dough, cut out your favorite winter shapes, and bake. I was just three ingredients away from a handmade Christmas, which my mother-in-law would just love. (Yea in-law points!)

So, I mixed together all the required fixin’s and waited patiently for my dough to form, except it never did. I ended up with a goopy, sticky lump that I couldn’t roll out, let alone shape into ornaments. It was a total craft fail. My super special Christmas surprise was not to be, but there are always more craft projects to try. Maybe next time I’ll use a craft project I find in a Library book, and maybe that one will work. You never know. Until then, happy crafting!
