Great Missouri Treasure Hunt
July 05, 2011
The Missouri State Archives is sponsoring a statewide contest called Great Missouri Treasure Hunt. It is an opportunity for Missourians to share what they have found in doing historical research. There are three categories: Family History, Civil War History, and Missouri History. Participants may submit photographs, stories, and videos.
Your treasure search can take you through the attic in your home, a cemetery, a courthouse, to a research facility such as the Midwest Genealogy Center, or online to sites such as Missouri Digital Heritage. The Missouri Treasure Hunt website and its Facebook page provide tips for conducting genealogical research, a directory of institutions that house historical documents, and weekly prize opportunities. The best discoveries will win a collection of prizes and give the winners a place in history as a part of the next Official Manual of the State of Missouri (Blue Book).
The contest runs through August 31, 2011. Complete rules and entry forms are available at the contest website. The treasure hunt is a wonderful opportunity to share with others the great treasures you have found doing genealogical research at the Midwest Genealogy Center.
