Great Historical Fiction for Young Readers
May 23, 2011
Some of the greatest historical fiction stories I have read are in the Dear America series. My favorite story is Standing in the Light: the captive diary of Catharine Carey Logan, by Mary Pope Osborne.
In this story, the young Catharine and her brother Thomas were captured by the Lenape Indians. They were separated as soon as they were taken to the camp. An elderly, Indian woman and her daughter adopted Catharine. Catharine befriended a young warrior and a romance developed between the two of them…
But I won’t give the rest away; you’ll have to read the book to find out!
In each Dear America book, there is a historical section with pictures. They are a fun way to get a better look into history. Click here to see more books in the Dear America series.
