The Great Dog Wash By Shellie Braeuner

November 29, 2011

This is a cute book with a splendid play on words. It’s a well-loved story as you can tell from our copy of the book at the Parkville Branch. It's quite kindly worn, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth the read. In fact, sometimes these older books are more enjoyable just because of their character and their age.

I like that the author used various types of dogs—big ones and small ones, dogs of all sizes! In the story, everything was going great at the dog wash until a cat sent the entire operation into turmoil. It turned into the classic dogs chase cat scenario, and ironically, the dogs got dirty again in the process of cat chasing. The kids hosting the dog wash were very resourceful and alleviated that problem. The cat got away safely. The dogs were cleaned once again, that is until next time...

The Great Dog Wash is the only book written by Shellie Braeuner, but if you want to read about more dog washes please check out:

  • Hot Dog and Bob and the Surprisingly Slobbery Attack of the Dog-Wash Doggies by Lissa Rovetch.
  • Wan and the Dog Wash: the Sound of W by Joanne D. Meier.
  • Dog Wash Day by Maryann Cocca-Leffler

Best of luck on your dog washing days!
