Being a grandparent is the best! My husband and I just became grandparents for the third time. We have been grandparents for 8 years, and are constantly amused and amazed by the experience! Our first granddaughter joined her two brothers two weeks ago.
We usually have the boys spend the night at our house about once a month. In a few months, I'm sure sister will be joining them. That may be a bit of a challenge, since it has been more than a few years since we had three of our own children in that age range. We are gearing up for the task!
I remember how much I enjoyed spending time at my grandparents' house as a child and even as a teen. I think our grandchildren feel the same way. I know we enjoy their visits. We play games, watch movies, and read with them. Some of my favorite books for younger children are the Little Critter books by Mercer Mayer and The Berenstain Bears books by Stan and Jan Berenstain. Some favorites for older children include the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney, and the Junie B. Jones series by Barbara Park.
Being a grandparent is a big responsibility, but you also have the fun of indulging them. You can then send them home to their parents and catch your breath!
