Got Art?
October 07, 2011
Just as the MCPL marketing theme says, "Life is better with art." There are many ways art can be part of our lives.
Here are a few resources I enjoy. Ed Emberley's Fingerprint Drawing Book and Ed Emberley's Drawing Book: Make a World take the mystery out of drawing. His approach is perfect for both children and adults. He makes it fun and easy to create together. I think Charles Reid's Portraits in Watercolor are gorgeous, and his use of watercolor brings out the best of this medium. He is a good teacher, too. Reid's books and videos offer instruction and a look into how he approaches his paintings.
A wonderful guide to art and art history is Carol Strickland's The Annotated Mona Lisa: A Crash Course in Art History. Trips to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art or the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art are more satisfying after dipping into her guide. It has become my favorite art reference. Enjoy!
