The Good Earth: This Month's Masterpiece
March 13, 2013
It’s March, and most of us are looking forward to the first signs of spring: warm weather and all those gardening chores that allow us to putter and get our hands dirty. Many gardeners have started their seedlings and are planning their vegetable gardens. It’s our annual return to the soil.
Before you get busy with those outdoor chores, take a little time to read a classic with the Masterpiece Book Club. Our book of the month is The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck. Set in Pre-WWII China, we follow Wang Lung from his humble beginnings as a poor farmer to success, wealth, and all the encumbrances of those rewards. It is touted as "the story of the cyclical nature of life, of the passions and desires that motivate a human being, of good and evil and of the desire to survive and thrive against great odds."
We will meet for discussion on Monday, March 18th at 7:00 p.m. Come join us!
