Giving Pets As Gifts for Christmas
December 15, 2010
Dogs can make wonderful gifts, but unlike material gifts, they aren't as easy to return if the fit isn't right. Make sure the new owner is ready to make a commitment for the dogs lifetime, and is prepared for the responsibilities involved in having a new family member.
The excitement of the Holidays may not be the best way to start with a new dog (from the dogs view). Too much excited energy can be an unhealthy way to begin your relationship with your new dog. A gift certificate to your local shelter might be a good idea for Christmas day. Then you can find your new dog, and involve the gift recipient after the excitement of the Holidays has past.
I recommend these books by Cesar Millan: A Member of the Family and How to Raise the Perfect Dog.
