The Girl In The Steel Corset
March 19, 2012
I have discovered a new, growing genre. It started to get momentum in the 1980s and early 1990s. Now, it is one of the fastest developing genres today. It is called Steampunk.
Steampunk is a sub-genre to fantasy and sci-fi. Steampunk has a setting that includes steam-powered machines in alternative historical times of the Victorian Era or United States Wild West. Sometimes, they take place in post-apocalyptic times.
A story that I really enjoyed was The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross. It is the first book in the series, The Steampunk Chronicles. Here is a little summary provided by our MCPL catalog:
In 1897 England, 16-year-old Finley Jayne is convinced she's a freak. No normal Victorian girl has a darker side that makes her capable of knocking out a full-grown man with one punch. Only Griffin King sees the magical darkness inside her that says she's special . . . that she's one of "them."
I can’t wait for the second story in this series. It is called The Girl in the Clockwork Collar. It is due to be released May 22, 2012. I’m already on the wait list.
