Gifts Made With Love: Project #2: Fleece Slippers
December 17, 2012
It is only a few weeks until the holidays, so I am in full-fledged creative mode. My projects seem to be going great, but it has been difficult to get into the proper mood for the season. I think the most likely culprit is the unseasonably warm weather. Going through the first three seasons of Northern Exposure has really helped me get in the mood to craft some snuggly gifts that will be appreciated when winter actually arrives.
My new favorite gift to make has been a pair of fleece slipper socks. I am taking advantage of the 50%-off fleece that most craft and fabric stores are advertising and making fleece slipper socks. I used Kwik Sew pattern K6938, but there are a lot of options if you just search online. Slippers tend to be only 3 - 4 pieces, making them a simple project that is good for even beginners. I made a pair for myself first so that I could work out any imperfections before I made them for friends. I wanted them to fit a little tighter, so I ended up cutting the sole a little slimmer. Now that my friends have seen my pair and a stack of different types of fleece, they are not shy about letting me know which pattern they like the most. I will be making quite a few pairs this year!
Here are a few links to some great crafting sights to get you started.
