The Gift of Mail
December 04, 2012
Do you write letters? Most people don’t any more, but maybe we should. I know there’s instant gratification with things like Facebook and email, but don’t you miss getting real live mail?
Do you remember picking out stationary (for some of us it just had to be Lisa Frank) and fancy pens, and then sitting down to write your pen pal? And then, when you got your very own letter with your name on it, you’d feel so special, right? Well, that doesn’t happen much anymore. The art of letter writing is nearly lost, but it doesn’t have to be.
The Library has a plethora (yep, practicing my letter writing vocabulary) of books on how to write a letter for any occasion. Whether you’re writing an invite, a thank-you, or a simple letter to your grandmother, a hand-written note is always extra special, and these resources can help you get started.
Surprise your BFF, your great aunt, or your pen pal (I wish I still had one) with a personalized message and give them the gift of mail that’s not junk (or a bill for that matter). It will make your day and theirs!

Treasured Keepsakes
Your blog brings to mind the handwritten letters that are my treasured keepsakes from Grandmother and Mom, both now deceased. Their letters are so special, not only because of the messages they still hold, but also because they are physical connections to these two very special women who so profoundly shaped my life.
