Getting a Handle On My Love Handles
November 21, 2011
Yet again, I find myself attempting to take some weight off. It is a never ending struggle for me. This time, however, I am amazed at the overwhelming amount of books and online resources available to help and encourage me. The library literally has hundreds of books on the subjects of weight loss, diet, and exercise. We have a wealth of books on health topics and how to change your diet to improve your health. There are also a lot of exercise DVDs that can be checked out to get us moving!
In Web Resources, under the heading Health and Medicine and the subheading Nutrition and Fitness, you can even find information on calorie counting, nutrition information for restaurants, calculating your body mass index, calorie counting your exercises, organizations that help with weight loss, exercise information, and many other related topics. Another great source of information is the library databases. The library subscribes to 276 databases, which are available at all branch locations. In addition, 269 of these resources are available remotely with an MCPL library card. Check out our Research Databases, and under the Health subtitle, you can find a lot of different places to pursue additional information.
Now I know, what a terrible time of the year to be thinking about losing weight! However, I am excited about the challenge of finding new recipes and adapting old ones to fit the needs of my family and those of us who are looking for a healthier way to enjoy eating during the holidays. It is like a treasure hunt! I plan to sit tonight and go through cookbooks and online information to come up with the recipes to make our first healthy AND delicious Thanksgiving dinner!
