Get Caught Reading Month
May 29, 2013
Earlier in the month, John Twelve Hawks’ The Traveler was the first book to pop into my head when National Get Caught Reading month was mentioned to me. The Chase by Clive Cussler was the second. I have to say, it has one of the most intriguing beginnings to a story.
The book starts in 1950 with a locomotive being pulled from a lake in Montana. Of course, that leads into the question… "How did that get there?" What follows is the story of detective Isaac Bell chasing down the Butcher Bandit, who’s on a cross country bank robbing spree. This one is all about the chase, and I love it. Since Isaac is tracking the Butcher Bandit in 1906, there are all kinds of transportation methods involved. My personal favorite is Bell’s locomobile. As the chase proceeds, so does your heart rate.
The Chase is the beginning of the Isaac Bell series. The Wrecker, The Spy, The Race, The Thief, and The Striker are books two through six. The Race involves a cross country airplane race. The Thief involves a talking picture machine. Book six just came out. I haven’t read it yet, but it’s on my list.
