Get Caught Reading Month
May 08, 2013
One of our staff members, Lacy, recently pointed out that May is National Get Caught Reading Month, and this got my brain to wondering (or trying to remember) what books have I read that involve getting caught. Or perhaps, not getting caught…
The first to pop into my head is John Twelve Hawks’ The Traveler. This is a book about a secret battle to control our world. It’s all controlled by an organization we never see, the Tabula. But, there are a few people known as travelers who can inspire people to freedom. Who can disrupt the plans of the organization? The Tabula mercenaries have ruthlessly hunted down and killed travelers for years. Now, a new technology and a new experiment require the use of the very thing they have hunted for years…a traveler.
Gabriel and Michael are brothers who live off the grid. Their father had been a traveler. Could they have his special ability? Now they are being hunted by the Tabula on the chance that they are travelers. Will they get caught? Who will win this epic battle?
I read this in 2005 when it first came out. The technology used to track people in the book wasn’t so common place then as it is now. I still catch myself wondering… who’s watching?
