A couple of coworkers and I have set a goal to read all the Gateway Award nominees for 2013-2014. We just finished reading Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetus. It is an amazing historical fiction book. It is set in Lithuania in the early 1940s and it follows 15-year-old Lina as she and her family are taken by Soviets and forced into labor camps.
I am not one who usually reads historical fiction. But, I could not put this book down. If you haven't tried historical fiction maybe this is the book to start with. It is a very quick read. And an amazing story.
