Free-Range Fruitcake
December 29, 2010
Does anything have a worse reputation during the holiday season than fruitcake? So now that Christmas is over, what do you do with that dried-up brick made with those candied fruits? I say throw it away, and start perfecting a fruitcake made from fresh or dried fruits instead.
Have you ever watched Good Eats with Alton Brown on the Food Network Channel? Well, Alton has a solution for every food problem, and he has solved the fruitcake dilemma several times. His recipe for Free-Range Fruitcake states, "The goal here is to free fruitcake from its reputation as a Holiday Horror." He’s a scientist when it comes to food.
Check out the following book, and then take time during 2011 to perfect your fruitcake recipe. Who knows, it may become a new food tradition at your home next Christmas.
