Football? Pfft. Upcoming Movie Commercials!

February 08, 2011

So the Super Bowl is over. Congratulations, Packers/Steelers. Now, to the good stuff.

One of my favorite parts about the Super Bowl is all the TV spots for upcoming films (I’m not really a sports person… or at all). Some of the ones that stood out to me this year were:

The trailer for Paramount’s upcoming Thor starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Anthony Hopkins. The newest in the adaptions of Marvel Comics characters, Thor is looking to be quite the action packed film. I, personally, can’t wait to see it. Directed by Kenneth Branagh (Hamlet, Frankenstein).  Watch the commercial here.

The spot for the mysterious film from director/producer J.J. Abrams (TV’s Alias, Lost, Fringe, & Star Trek) called Super 8. This film has been shrouded in secrecy since its infancy.  J.J. is starting to be known for producing films that no one knows anything about until they come out. It began with 2008’s Cloverfield. Watch the commercial here.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is the fourth film in the POTC film franchise. This new installment has a new director, Rob Marshall (Chicago, Nine) and stars Johnny Depp-sans Knightley and Bloom-in the role that made him a household name, Captain Jack Sparrow, as well as a brand new cast (Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane). Geoffrey Rush also returns to the role of Captain Barbosa, but it looks like he’s working for the “good guys” now (????????). Watch the commercial here.

There were several other great film spots (Rango, Transformers 3, Captain America), all of which can be viewed at Yahoo!Movies.
