Over one hundred years ago, one of the most important historical events ever took place at Kitty Hawk, NC. On December 17, 1903, the Wright Brothers flew and controlled the first motorized airplane. A number of good juvenile and adult books are available at the library so you can learn all about the Wright Brothers, their historical flight, and the other people involved at that time.
I enjoyed Dawn Over Kitty Hawk by Walter J. Boyne, a historical novel about the Wright Brothers and a supporting cast of high-flyers in the race to be the first to succeed in flying airplanes. This book captures their vision and fierce competition to be the first in flight, as well as the interaction of various members of the Wright family.
