Finding Your New Once Upon A Time...
November 17, 2013
Once upon a time… This simple phrase takes us back in time to our childhoods when every story had a happy ending and a handsome prince. What if I told you that teenagers and adults can have their once upon a times, too? No matter how old you are, everyone deserves their version of a fairy tale.
As we grow older, sometimes our fairy tales grow a little darker. However, they can be based off your childhood favorites. If Alice in Wonderland was one of your favorite books as a kid, you may like Splintered, a young adult book by A.G. Howard that is based off that very fairy tale. Just Ella, by Margaret Peterson Haddix, is another version of Cinderella that grabs readers from the very start. If you want a whole new fairy tale, The Faire Folk series by Gillian Summers is a great one to try.
Now, for the adults out there, fairy tales still exist in the adult world; sometimes they are just hidden a little better. Wicked, by Gregory Maguire, is just one of the great choices out there. Neil Gaiman’s Snow, Glass, Apples is another great choice for a fairy tale. If you love fairy tales and want other options, Maria Snyder’s Study and Glass series grabs you from start to finish.
For you TV lovers, the television series Once Upon A Time and Once Upon A Time in Wonderland on ABC are great versions of some of our classic fairy tales, with a little extra twist!
If you have read all the traditional fairy tales and need more, MCPL is a great source for those untraditional fairy tales. All you have to do is come in to any MCPL branch or try out our eBooks to receive your new favorite fairy tale. Now, go enjoy your once upon a time!
