Featured Employee of the Month for June
June 14, 2012
This month I interviewed Holly, who is a Substitute Library Clerk at the Excelsior Springs Branch. Let’s see what she has to say about working at the Library!
Me: Holly, tell me about your job at the Library.
Holly: I work at the desk and I fill in for storytime. I love my job because I like helping the kids find stuff.
Me: How long have you been working here?
Holly: About a year and a half.
Me: And have you always worked at the desk?
Holly: No, I was a page when I first got here. Before that, I worked at the Riverside Branch. And I started out there as a page when I was 15. When I left, I had been a sub and then half-time, and I did storytime and adult programs there. I then came back as a page at Excelsior Springs.
Me: What’s the difference between working at this branch and the one at Riverside?
Holly: This is a larger library. We have a larger staff. The routing was different because Riverside was centrally located and had other branches nearby, so there was more traffic with items being shipped in and out. Whereas here at Excelsior Springs, it’s more of a hometown library, so people come in and get something here at the branch.
Me: So what is your official title here and what does that mean?
Holly: I’m a Substitute Desk Clerk. That means I fill in when needed. I am not salaried.
Me: Dare I ask which Library branch you like the best?
Holly: Don’t ask that! Dare I not answer? I like them both equally!
Well that’s good to know! Join us next month again for the "Featured Employee of the Month" Blog to get to know the staff here at your local Library!
