So, you have the family coming over for the holidays. You’ve thought of a menu, been to the store, and have a good idea of how it’s going to come together. A big happy family gathering just like the Waltons, or maybe Leave it to Beaver, or maybe the uh, Simpsons. Wait a minute- the Simpsons can be fun to watch, but do we really want to live like that???
Before you can say, “Emergency, Will Robinson”, the whole dinner/gathering could be dissolving into chaos! Or equally bad…just zoning out in front of the TV or computer.
Time to break out your emergency kit of family games and un-plug. Maybe even inter-act.
What? You don’t have an emergency kit of games? Cards, bingo, and board games for kids of all ages are great.
However…if you really want to do something different, maybe you should take a moment to look through the library’s selection of books on family games or ice-breakers.
Just a very quick glance at a shelf will give you titles like :
Things to Do as a Family – Musselwhite, Debbie
101 Fun, Creative, and Interactive Games for Kids - Peck, Steven
Fun & Games for Family Gatherings - Anderson, Adrienne
So while the turkey is roasting, go ahead and play Leap Frog Relay with Uncle George and Sardines with Auntie Zelda. (Fun and Games For Family Gatherings - Anderson)
This could be the year that you start a new tradition and keep ‘em coming back for more!
