Facebooking the Library
September 27, 2010
Social media has entered our lives in a big way in the past 10 years. It seems that Facebook is here to stay, at least for a while! It's estimated that over 500 million people currently use Facebook in just about every country in the world. That's about 1 in 12 people in the world using Facebook. You didn't think MCPL would be left out, did you?
You may not know this, but MCPL has several Facebook pages! One general page, several branch pages, and even several teen pages! What a great way to keep up with the library, and find out what events are going on in your neck of the woods. Interested? Here's a list of current MCPL Facebook pages. Become a "Fan" today! Don't be discouraged if you don't see your branch listed; more branches are creating their own pages all the time, and we would love your social media support.

Thanks!
Thank you for posting this. I hope people enjoy seeing all the branches status updates on Facebook. For a library to be relevant, it think it has to be "where" the people gather. In communities, that may be near major roads and shopping districts. Online, Facebook is just such a place.
From a communications point of view, this is a pretty interesting time. Just to tell you how enamored I am with this stuff, I can't wait to see the movie "Social Network." Is there anyone else in this boat with me?
