Exploring Kansas City

December 03, 2012

I love visiting museums and historical sites near my home. In fact, it is one of my all-time favorite pastimes. (A trait, I might add, that my husband has reluctantly grown to love about me.) These little mini adventures help me learn a lot about a city’s history and culture, and also provide me with some amazing photo ops. It is pretty much my favorite way to spend a weekend!

When we were first married, my husband and I lived in Rolla, MO, which, if you are unfamiliar, is a pretty small place. Let’s just say, the places for adventuring were few and far between. We then moved to Council Bluffs, IA and worked in downtown Omaha. The amount of things to see and do was almost overwhelming when compared to the small town of Rolla, MO. I promptly went to the Chamber office and picked up a visitor’s guide to start planning our adventures.

In the year we lived in Iowa, I had pretty much taken my husband to every place of interest in our Omaha Visitors Guide (I liked to check off places after we visited them). Naturally, when he told me we were moving here, I was very excited to explore an even bigger city!

Since moving, we have visited several museums downtown, like Union Station, Nelson Atkins, and the Liberty Memorial, but I knew I was missing out on lots of hidden treasures. Imagine my excitement when I happened across this amazing alphabetized list of KC attractions on the MYMCPL Website.

Not only does this list contain great places to visit, but each entry links to the attraction’s own website and lists location, pricing, hours of operation, etc., making it even easier to plan your weekend. I honestly can’t wait to start exploring Kansas City (and checking each place off my new list).
