Every Day is a Holiday...Sort Of
November 19, 2012
Need a reason to celebrate? Well, every day’s a holiday! Sort of... For example, coming up soon is Malta's national holiday and Sweden’s Santa Lucia Day (both Thursday 12/13). Saturday, December 15th is the Bill of Rights Day, Cat Herder’s Day, the 73rd anniversary of the film premiere of Gone with the Wind, and also Tim Conway’s 79th birthday.
Did you know that there’s an actual day called "Grass is Always Browner on the Other Side of the Fence Day"? (March 30th). Or that on Monday June 3rd, you should ask your boss if you can leave early because it’s "National Leave the Office Earlier Day"? Or that cousins have their own special day on July 24th as do best friends on August 15?
Where can you find out all this information and more? In the annual Chase's ... Calendar of Events available at most branches of the MCPL, that's where. It was 55 years ago this week that brothers, William and Harrison Chase, put out their first edition of this now annual publication. The first one was only 32 pages long and had 364 entries. Compare that to the 2013 edition, which has over 12,500 entries, and is 752 pages and comes with a CD-ROM. So it’s grown a bit! Chase's website has a lot of neat information, too.
If you’re looking for a celebrity’s birthday or a famous event, or if you want to find out if a particular day, week, or month is observed, ask for the most recent edition of Chase’s ... Calendar of Events: The Ultimate Go-to Guide for Special Days, Weeks, and Months.
