Every Child Ready To Read: READING
March 27, 2012
It probably comes as no surprise that reading is an important part of the literacy initiative! You are probably already reading aloud to your child on a regular basis. You can enhance this experience in so many ways.
Make reading a shared experience with your child! Let your child turn the pages of the book while you read. Ask them questions about the pictures throughout the book. Have them predict what will happen before you turn the pages. After the book is over, ask your child to re-tell the story to you. Engaging your child in these ways will help make them excited about reading and help them to realize that printed word has meaning.
Be a model for reading. Children learn reading habits by watching the grown-ups they love enjoy a good book! Be sure to take your child to the library and allow them to choose a good book (or ten!). The library also offers programs that encourage reading and book enjoyment, such as storytimes and special themed activities. We’ll be happy to share OUR love for reading with you and your child! See you soon!
