Every Child Ready to Read!
February 15, 2012
We do lots at the library to help little ones learn to love reading! Did you know, though, that YOU are your child’s most important teacher in early literacy education?
Libraries across the country are teaming up with parents and caregivers to foster the skills needed for reading success! The Every Child Ready to Read initiative has identified 5 Key Areas of early reading skills that are indicators of future reading success:
- Talking
- Singing
- Reading
- Writing
- Playing
We use all of these developmental skills at the library in our storytimes and family programs. We encourage you to think about ways you can incorporate these 5 Key areas into your daily interactions with your child. Look for more info about specific things you can do in each of the 5 key development areas on our blog over the next few weeks!
