An Evening of Jazz In Raytown
January 19, 2012
As someone who has lived most of his life in the Raytown area, I have always been a booster of the Raytown community. While I like the Raytown community, I have to admit, when people in the metropolitan area think of entertainment, we’re not real high on the list. I’ve never really been able to promote one of Kansas City’s best entertainers at the Raytown Branch for an evening of entertainment. Well, now I can. On Wednesday, February 29th, 2012, @ 7:00 p.m., the Raytown Branch will host Kansas City’ Best Kept Jazz Secret: Millie Edwards.
Ms. Edwards accomplishments are truly amazing. She has been quoted as saying she was destined to be a singer/musician. She started playing the piano at age 4 and the viola at age 10. However, her road to fame has taken many different turns, including working for the phone company for many years. Now, she is a regular on the Kansas City jazz circuit and performs regularly at many of Kansas City’s better jazz clubs, as well as special events throughout the metropolitan area. In addition, Ms. Edwards uses her talents to help many charities throughout the area also.
I honestly have to say, I love most styles of music, even though I can’t read or play a note, and I really am not a very good singer. But when I learned I was going to be hosting this program, I was really happy because I know I will get to enjoy an evening with a superb entertainer. I’m sure you won’t want to miss this special event either. We will see you there.
