English Language Learners Are Summer Readers
June 18, 2012
Our branch has had the privilege of doing storytimes at an English Language Learners (ELL) summer school. The 150 students from families with various first languages also visited the Library for a tour and to pick out their free book for participating in the Summer Reading Program. A few of them have visited MCPL locations, and others had never seen a public library before. They were excited about all the books in the Library. What a great experience getting to know the kids and reaching out to their families!
Some favorite books we have shared this summer are:
- Press Here by Herve Tullet
- Mitchell's License by Hallie Durand
- Is Everyone Ready for Fun? by Jan Thomas
- Holler Loudly by Cynthia Leitich Smith
- Petite Rouge: a Cajun Red Riding Hood by Mike Artell
