Endless Projects

August 27, 2010

Two Projects, Both Unfinished -

The perpetual sock...
I carry it everywhere, appointments, coffee shops, it sits next to my chair at home and slowly, slowly, it grows.  How could I have been knitting just one sock for so many months? After all, knitting is meditative, calming, creative, FUN! Why  is my sock neglected? I carry it everywhere, but I just don't knit. I need discipline, a goal, witnesses, a group of knitters to marvel (or scoff) at my progress.  But slowly it grows, I am working on the toe.  Just a little more and I will finish the sock! Then what will I do, denied my constant and faithful companion, alone at the coffee shop, bored in waiting rooms? No problem, socks come in pairs, I'll start the second one.

The endless blanket...
After knitting my first blanket the hard way - on circular needles with 200 stitches per row - I resolved to knit my next large blanket the "easy" way - by making patches and then sewing together.  What can I say - I got the inspiration from a few knitting books and Molly Learns a Lesson by Valerie Tripp.  So here I am, one year later - and I've only got twelve patches done... twelve... out of about two hundred... I'll get it done eventually - but what to do when it's all said and done?  I guess I'll just have to actually read a pattern and figure out how to follow one...

Maybe you don't knit - maybe you crochet, cross-stitch or do some sort of creative project... Well, then we invite you to come join the Knit & Stitch Group at Red Bridge Library!  We meet every fourth Thursday (the next time we get together is September 23) at 1:00 in the afternoon.

We welcome crafts of all kinds - that includes all of you lovely scrapbookers! (Speaking of, have you scrapbookers seen the size of our work tables?)
