Edgerton Staff Favorites For Cold, Snowy Days

February 17, 2011

With the exception of a few days this week, we have been having some really rotten weather. MCPL has even had a few snow days! I decided to ask my fellow Edgerton librarians what movies and books are their all-time favorites. Which book and/or movie would they pick up to read or watch on a snow day, even if they have read it or seen it a hundred times?

Tiara - I love Tombstone with Val Kilmer! One of my favorite quotes from Doc Holiday is, "Looks like poker just isn’t your game. I know, let’s have a spelling contest."

Rexanne - My favorite movie is Forrest Gump - How can you not love everything about Forrest? My favorite book is The Glass Castle. This is a true story. It is amazing how intelligent the parents were and how much knowledge they passed on to their children. But, the way the children were raised was shocking. It just goes to show you just never really know people.

Terry - My favorite book is Homer’s Odyssey. It’s a touching story. The cat is blind, but he doesn’t know he’s blind. I love the movie The Christmas Card. I like it because the lead actor is good lookin’! And Ed Asner does a wonderful job.

Mary - My favorite movie is It’s a Wonderful Life. It’s a good, wholesome family movie. My favorite book is The Wizard of Oz. It’s a just a good, ‘ol classic.

Priscilla - My all-time favorite movie is Silver Streak because it's a who-done-it that makes me laugh. A book that has stayed with me for years is A Lantern In Her Hand by Bess Streeter Aldrich. I read this when I was quite young and it made quite an impact on me.

Kat - My favorite movie is Doctor Zhivago. The story is so dramatic and the scenery is amazing. It was a movie I loved to watch with my mom! My favorite book is River God by Wilbur Smith. It’s an intricate and personal narrative of Egyptian History and the early dynasties. I liked the fresh narrative and it sparked an interest in African historical novels for me!

Jordan - My favorite movie is Gone With the Wind. I love everything about this movie! Scarlet O’Hara is my favorite character in both fiction and film. She’s both villain and damsel in distress. My favorite book is any book in the Harry Potter series. I have read all seven at least ten times each!
