Eddie the Library Dog

January 06, 2011

Watch out Dewey the Cat. This is Eddie the Library Dog. He was found near the library last year. His fur was matted, he was skinny from being on the street for a few days, but he was full of love and affection. Quite frankly, it was love at first sight for me.

I could not bear to take him to the pound. I called animal control to let them know a dog was found in the area. That night, he went home with me. Over the next week, I posted ads on different websites and visited local vets to see if the dog looked familiar to anyone. He was found without tags, and he wasn’t micro-chipped. I didn’t name the dog because I didn’t want to get attached to him.  That was a lost cause! A week later, the ads came down and he became mine. I tried out several names, including Puppy, Chester, and Chip. Eddie, short for Edmund J. Crookshanks, was the name that stuck. That name came out of nowhere, by the way.

The library helped me be the best doggy mom I could be. Here are some books that really helped me adjust to and adore life with a dog.

Dog Treats: Practical Projects to Pamper Your Pooch That Prove You Care by Eve Devereaux
Dog Show by Molly Russell
Pamper Your Pooch by Sarah Whitehead
Mutts Shelter Stories: Love. Guaranteed by Patrick McDonnell
Mini Encyclopedia of Dog Training & Behavior by Colin Tennant
The Sit Down, Come, Heel, Stay, and Stand Book by Claire Arrowsmith

Hooray for you for keeping him! I agree, the library has terrific resources about all kinds of pets.
